More Information about Milon Townsend -Townsend Associates
Artist Milon Townsend captures elegance, energy, and expression in his figurative glass sculptures. Each piece is individually created by the artist
himself - no molds are used and thus each work is unique. His imginative approach to traditional glass objects such s goblets and perfumes adds
interest, prestige, and value. Line, form, movement and color are the key ingredients that combine to elucidate Townsend's distinctive style. "I seek to clarify the elements of Truth, Beauty, and Simplicity through visual form.
These are becoming rare qualities to find in our lives today, though the need for them has perhaps never been greater."
More about Milon Townsend's studio team:
Townsend Associates is a team of skilled artists workign closely together, with guidance and direction from founder Milon Townsend. The team produces paperweights, perfumes, goblets, and ornaments of exception quality and detail, using the technique of flameworking. This process of heating rods, tubes, and sheets of glass in a highly specific torch flame allows the artist to include an extraorinary level of detail, drawing the eye of the viewer into the piece. In order to be a member of the team, each person must be able to execute their pieces as well as or better than Townsend himself. Each artist is encouraged to develop their own series of pieces, lading naturally to a collegiate level of give and take in which ideas are able to flourish and grow. Brett Pierce- The foundation of 17 years of scientific glassblowing really shows in the clean, consistent lines of the miniature perfumrs, twisted can, and mermaid ornaments that he makes. Terry Berke - Water color and figure drawing combined with almost 30 years of flameworking allow Terry to focus his artist's eye on mermaid ornaments, angel ornaments, frogs, and cupids. Milon Townsend - His background in classical music and over 25 years of practice have led to the clean line and classical forms that define the work produced by Townsend Associates. Jon-Pil Pyun - World-class skill and incredible attention to detail are the hallmarks of JP's style. His most improtant contribution was to upgrade the quality of the work coming out of the studio. JP works primarly with Milon on his larger sculptures. Richard Lynch - Drawing on his extensive background in woodworking,Rich creates specialized mounting and framing for some of Milon's larger sculptures. Ryan P. Higgins - Originally a student in one of Milon's classes at Corning, Ryan now produces the GerStone series of paperweights, colored cane for Milon's larger works, and creates his own sculptures for gallery representation.
