"Metanoia" Abstract Sculpture by Daryl Stokes The central figure of this abstract sculpture is a representational head which is expanding with outward projections, signifying a fundamental change of character. The bold, angular visage rises dramatically from a rugged, multi faceted redwood base structure. The contorted organic burl components sharply contrast with the smoothly polished geometric counterparts. The entire personality of the sculpture changes remarkably as it is viewed from various positions. This abstract redwood sculpture has been composed with individual redwood burls which have been carved with chain saws, shaped with grinders and hand crafted to further enhance the forms. The wood components have been sprayed with a durable clear oil with a matt finish which enhances all the natural colors and exotic grain patterns. Each sculpture is totally unique and cannot be duplicated. All of the natural redwood used to create these sculptures has been reclaimed from fallen trees which have been victimized from winter storms, landslides or forest fires, therefor no living trees have been utilized.
