Show who you are, express yourself

Mats Jonasson has found inspiration in mythology, fantasy and reality when he has created his own little work of arts in sparkling crystal. As an observer of these necklaces, and with a little use of your imagination, you can find your own soul mate.
-I like to give every piece that I make a background, a story if its own, Mats explains.

In more than a decade, Mats has (on and off) been working on the embryos which eventually became the crystal necklaces. Finished samples in silver, tin and of course crystal have long been resting on his worktable. Self-criticism has been the main reason why the samples did not materialize into finished products.
-Sharp eyes and a wastebasket are a designers best friends, Mats philosophically explains.

In September 2004 a new idea began to develop of how to present something completely new and different. It resulted in hand-casted, sandblasted and hand-painted crystal jewellery in combination with silver. The production process is well-known to the glassworks in Målerås. A spark of inspiration grew into something real, and today Mats Jonasson Målerås can present 15 unique pieces of jewellery.
-There is a great demand for our new collection, and hopefully we´ll be able to reach many new customers with it, Mats says.

Carolina Klüft as model*

The new pieces in the jewellery collection are very expressive, with distinctive features from the world of mythology. The immense power that exists in the motives, made the choice of model an easy one.

-Yes, I guess it´s quite easy to think of Carolina Klüft. She radiates the same things: power, elegance, happiness and purposefulness. She is also a defender of the common, ordinary man, explains Mats.

-Usually I am not a great fan of wearing jewellery, but I really liked this collection, and it feels good to be able to help a glassworks like Målerås, Carolina says and continues: -The story of the glassworks and the driving force of Mats Jonasson, and his contributions to the village of Målerås, all made a great impact on me.

-My own favourite among the necklaces is Golden Shadow. It´s got a touch of gold in it, and I never say no that, Carolina says, laughing.


*Carolina Klüft is a Swedish heptathlete. She won the Olympic gold medal in Athens, 2004. Champion of the world: 2003 and 2005.



About the Glassworks
MATS JONASSON MÅLERÅS is a Swedish company with a long tradition in producing high-quality handmade crystal. The collection mainly consists of crystal sculptures, with an additional assortment of platters, bowls and vases.
The company employs 70 people. Export sales reach 50% of the total output, and 50 nations world-wide. Other designers connected to Mats Jonasson Målerås includes Erika Höglund, Klas-Göran Tinbäck and Robert Ljubez. The Glassworks is located in Målerås, in the middle of the Kingdom of Crystal.
