"Idolic Figure" Abstract Redwood Sculpture by Daryl Stokes Striking redwood burl abstract sculpture with a contemporary, multi faceted structure contrasting with interwoven rugged burl forms. This intriguing statue has an iconic demeanor with a prominent angular top component containing a subliminal eye on each side. The head protrudes from a sinuous organic burl formation which is also encompassed by a configuration of polished geometric designs. As the sculpture is viewed from opposite sides, the entire character of the composition changes remarkably. This contemporary redwood sculpture has been designed with numerous redwood burls which have been sectioned and carved with chain saws, shaped with grinders and hand crafted to further embellish the forms. The wood components have been thoroughly treated with a durable clear oil and hand rubbed, producing a matt finish which reveals all the natural colors and exotic grain patterns. Due to the inherent characteristics of redwood burl, each sculpture is totally unique and cannot be duplicated. All of the natural redwood used to create these sculptures has been reclaimed the underground portions from fallen trees which have been victimized from winter storms, landslides or forest fires, therefor no living trees have been utilized.
