Each flute begins as a tube which is mouth blown into its slender, conic shape. While still hot, one of several patterns conceived by or acceptable to Hans-Godo Fräbel, founder and principal artist of the studio bearing his name, is produced by heating and softening a very thin rod and slowly applying it to the surface of the flute as an overlay. Then a foot is fashioned from a heavy boron glass rod which has been heated to the consistency of honey (at about 2300ºF). A thin rod then joins the flute and foot as the stem.

If desired initials can be "embossed" on the glass foot, e.g., the initials of two newly weds. An additional cost of $6 for each initial will be incurred.
