"Fluctuating Lizards" Abstract Redwood Wall Sculpture by Daryl Stokes Visually powerful abstract redwood wall design composed of a series of twisted redwood roots that are interwoven and juxtaposed with three elongated angular burl wood forms. The long polished geometric forms visually interact with the driftwood counterparts to create subliminal forms resembling abstract lizards or reptilian creatures. The wood designs have an abundance of large open areas between them creating a light airy effect that makes them appear to be floating in space. This contemporary redwood wall sculpture has been designed with several redwood burls and roots which have been sectioned and carved with chain saws, shaped with grinders and hand crafted to further embellish the forms. The wood components have been thoroughly sprayed with a durable clear oil and hand rubbed, producing a matt finish which reveals all the natural colors and exotic grain patterns. Due to the inherent characteristics of redwood burl, each wall sculpture is totally unique and cannot be duplicated. All of the natural redwood used to create these sculptures has been reclaimed the underground portions from fallen trees which have been victimized from winter storms, landslides or forest fires, therefor no living trees have been utilized.
