"Enigmatic Character"Redwood Abstract Sculpture by Daryl Stokes-SOLD Intriguing small abstract redwood sculpture with dramatic design characteristics which change remarkably as it is viewed from different positions. The sculpture design resembles a very abstract hour glass shape with boldly angled polished forms appearing to emerge from gnarled organic redwood burl counterparts. Composed of several redwood burls which have been carved with chain saws, shaped with grinders and hand crafted to further enhance the natural forms. After final preparation, the wood components are assembled with multiple steel rods. The redwood sculpture has been sprayed with a durable clear oil and hand rubbed, producing a matte finish which reveals all the natural colors and exotic grain patterns. Due to the nature of redwood burls, each sculpture unique and cannot be duplicated. Although it is possible to create similar designs, they will never be exactly the same. All of the redwood burls and roots used to create these sculptures has been reclaimed from the underground portions of fallen trees which have been victimized from winter storms, landslides or forest fires, therefor no living trees have been utilized.
