"Elated Sensation" Redwood Abstract Sculpture by Daryl Stokes Intriguing smaller version abstract redwood sculpture with a pronounced pointed apex thrusting upward and supported by two bold angular forms which are offset. The top of the sculpture has an irregular hole in the upper portion which is a prolific accent. Primitively architectural, this fascinating burl wood sculpture has been created with several redwood burls which have been carved with chain saws, shaped with grinders and hand crafted to further enhance the natural forms. The wood designs have been assembled with multiple steel rods and sprayed with a durable clear oil producing a matte finish which reveals all the natural wood colors and exotic grain patterns. As the sculpture is viewed from various positions, the character changes remarkably. Due to the nature of redwood burls, each sculpture is one of a kind and cannot be duplicated. Although it is possible to create similar designs, they will never be exactly the same. The redwood tree materials used to create these sculptures has been reclaimed from the underground portions of fallen redwoods which have been victimized from winter storms, landslides or forest fires, therefor no living trees have been utilized.
