Beautiful hand blown and extremely detailed Blue Teal spotted hand blown glass octopus sculpture by glass artist Michael Hopko, from his new Coral Garden Series, was designed for the serious art glass collector. You will see why, as you examine the work that has gone into this spectacular piece. This uniquely patterned Octopus consists of an elaborate ringlet design with a suction cup under belly to give a truly magical feel. Many steps are involved in creating such a unusual looking color pattern. The first step involves pulling long rods of colored glass cane. After annealing the cane, the glass is cut up into little slices making lots of tiny disc shape glass pieces. Hundreds of 1/8 to 1/4 inch pieces are then cut and are meticulously laid out to be picked up with a gather of hot molten clear glass. After blowing, shaping, heating, pulling, cutting, torching and numerous reheats, finally, the little suction cups are added to the base of the octopus for that unique look and feel that is exclusive to the Coral Garden Series.
